31 Miles for Nature

I’m moving 31 Miles for Nature to raise £150 for Greenpeace - can you sponsor me?

Hi everyone,

This month, I'm attempting to go some distance for the planet by taking on a challenge called Moving 31 Miles for Nature in support of Greenpeace!

Thirty-one miles in a month, you say? "Wow, Andrew – well done mate!" is what I suspect you’re all thinking. The average hedgehog wanders around 37 miles in a month. So yes, while I realise some of my fitter friends and relatives regularly eat this distance before breakfast, I accept there's a symbolic aspect to this.  Unlike our prickly friends, I won't be stopping in people’s gardens every five minutes for a snack.  In fact Greenpeace doesn't care how this distance is covered (as long as it is self-powered) - it is about camaraderie around a mission to raise awareness and funds for a vital cause.

But, to make this symbolic distance a bit more memorable... I’ll only be counting the miles I run.

...and (although still deciding)

I may don my Vibram FiveFingers to banish any comfort (and some would argue, self-respect) for every mile I count. Those in the know will appreciate I'll be committing to the pain.

Why Greenpeace Needs Your Help

I’m joining literally thousands of people across the country taking up this challenge because Greenpeace does vital, non-stop work for our planet.

They focus on the fundamental, life-support issues around our existence - from protecting our oceans and forests to promoting clean energy. Their work is politically agnostic; they're only focused on the science and humanity, essential to protect our planet for future generations.

They face an uphill battle against massive corporate organisations that try to silence them and governments that are often slow to act or simply fail to grasp the true scale of the environmental crisis ahead. This is why their work is so important, and why they need all the support they can get. I’m genuinely proud to be even a small part of their efforts this month.

I’m aiming to raise £150. Would you be happy to donate even a few quid to sponsor my run (and my questionable footwear choices)?
