Racing to Protect Our Planet

By Andrew Simpson

Trading mountains for fens

Our planet is currently facing a climate and nature crisis. From the destruction of ancient forests to the plastic clogging our oceans, the stakes have never been higher. Greenpeace is on the front lines, pushing for bold action and standing up to the corporations threatening our collective future.

Racing for Greenpeace is my way of stepping up to support their vital work.

The Road To The Start Line

This hasn't been the smoothest training block. I’ve been clocking five miles every evening, only to be sidelined by a stubborn tendon injury for the last fortnight. Thankfully, I am finally on the mend and more determined than ever to get back to it.

This is my first competitive event since the Loch Ness Marathon in 2018.  For those who don’t know, that race starts with a significant descent.  I made the decision to hurtle down the mountain wondering why everyone else was not taking advantage of the gravity freebie for the first quarter of the 26 mile race. I found out when I reached the bottom as I struggled to put one foot in front of the other for the remaining 18 miles (with the added humiliation of everyone who'd understood better the mistake of running downhill at pace...) smiling at me as they passed me.  Yep.

Why I’m running

Beyond the personal challenge, I am running to help this amazing organisation fund their crucial work. If you believe in a greener, fairer world and want to help protect the planet, please consider sponsoring me.

It is actually more names on my sponsorship list that gives me the greatest buzz and more incentive to do this - no matter how small the donation (Shh - don't tell Greenpeace),  so whether it’s the price of a coffee or a larger donation, I would be so incredibly grateful for your support.
