31 Miles for Nature

I’m moving 31 Miles for Nature to raise £150 for Greenpeace - can you sponsor me?

Our favourite places in nature are under threat from climate change, habitat loss and pollution. We need to act now to save them. That's why I've decided to move 31 Miles for Nature this October and raise £150 for Greenpeace.

With a fifty year history of defending nature, Greenpeace's mission is to create a greener, healthier, and more peaceful planet. Any donation you make could help power their campaigns to keep our oceans healthy, our forests standing, and fossil fuels in the ground.

Greenpeace never accepts money from companies or governments, so they depend on supporters, like us, to fund all of their campaigns.

Please sponsor me today and help me reach my £150 goal. Thank you!

Sunday stroll

Tuesday 7th Oct
After my epic Saturday walk, which I planned to repeat on Sunday, I realised I didn’t have it in me…. So a gentle stroll around Hampstead Heath and Hampstead was enough, and all the aches from Saturday started to return! Gah!

Halfway there….

Sunday 5th Oct
Like the fool that I am, I decided to walk from Richmond to Battersea along the Thames, in what turned out to be one of the windiest days this year!

The original plan was to walk as far as Tower Bridge today, but everything hurt by the time I reached Battersea Power Station, and my glorious partner was there waiting for me with a coffee and a kiss and…. Now I’m home.

The irony of Mother Nature asserting herself so spectacularly today, the day I chose to walk as far as possible, is not lost on me. My cap got blown off four times, I got smacked by a fallen twig, fell over and the wind decided to share my coffee with the pavement and my arm!

While I’m achey, it felt like a holiday. So much beauty, and great to spend a day moving!

What your sponsorship will help with

Wednesday 17th Sep

In just over 2 weeks, I’ll be joining more than 1,500 others, in starting the 31 Miles for Nature challenge!

It’s crucial to fundraise for Greenpeace at such a critical time for nature and biodiversity.

Your sponsorship money could help Greenpeace to:

🌍 Protect habitats: Greenpeace is campaigning to protect 30% of the planet for nature by 2030, by establishing more protected areas, such as national parks, wildlife reserves, and marine protected areas, to safeguard wild habitats and their biodiversity.

🔎 Get to the truth: Greenpeace uses scientific research and investigations to expose those responsible for environmental destruction and shed light on the areas of operation that they would rather stay in the dark.

📢 Make an impact: Through lobbying, Greenpeace makes sure its campaign demands are clearly heard by decision-makers like politicians and business leaders.

So dig deep and support me in my two-day epic walking challenge!

Love and steps,

Will

How hard can it be?

Monday 15th Sep
Now, I know for some people walking a mile day might be challenging, but I wanted to help Greenpeace raise money while challenging myself, too. So rather than trundling around for a mile a day, I thought, 'Why not do the 31 miles in one weekend?'. So then I got to thinking about a good route - and the weather in Occtober is normally awful - so I decided to follow the length of the Thames from Richmond to the Thames Barrier. I think this will also allow me to see how the capital is allowing for, or accommodating, nature in the urban environment. And if I hit my target, I'll do the walk in FANCY DRESS.
