31 Miles for Nature

I’m moving 31 Miles for Nature to raise £150 for Greenpeace - can you sponsor me?

Our favourite places in nature are under threat from climate change, habitat loss and pollution. We need to act now to save them. That's why I've decided to move 31 Miles for Nature this October and raise £150 for Greenpeace.

With a fifty year history of defending nature, Greenpeace's mission is to create a greener, healthier, and more peaceful planet. Any donation you make could help power their campaigns to keep our oceans healthy, our forests standing, and fossil fuels in the ground.

Greenpeace never accepts money from companies or governments, so they depend on supporters, like us, to fund all of their campaigns.

Please sponsor me today and help me reach my £150 goal. Thank you!

My Updates

Ive just finished

Sunday 26th Oct
Hi guys, ive just finished my 31 mile cycle for nature. I chose to do a route that goes through not one, but two of my favourite places in nature in london. Firstly through richmond park, and then along the thames up to hampton court. Heres the strava route https://strava.app.link/mkUg6zpxMXb

I chose this route because when i first started cycling, these were places that i cycled regularly. These are places that helped me to feel more connected to nature in the big bustling city. Going from blocks of flats, to within almost touching distance of deer in richmond park, and the picturesque views of the thames, these are things that i really value.

Having such easy access to nature, despite being in london, i think was a big factor in my eventual decision to pursue a career in wildlife conservation. But so many of us in london, are so disconnected from nature, that we dont even feel the disconnect... until we find the connection again. This connection with nature also has a hige effect on our mental and physical health, something that was first theorised by author Edward Wilson in his book biophilia  (meaning the love of life or nature) in 1986, and recent studies have been done to take it from a hypothesis, to proven fact. Humans are healthier and happier when we can see 4 things, the sky, the sun, wildlife (animals or plants) and water. These are all big parts of nature.

Anyway, i wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored me on my first (of many) sponsored fundraising events. I had to move my fundraising goal up twice, which i was not expecting. This money will be able support all sorts of greenpeace initiatives, from practical conservation tasks, to campaigning to improve governments environmental stance, and even education.

Whats at stake?

Thursday 23rd Oct
If you know me, you know two things about me. I love to cycle, and i love the natural world. But this is about so much more than me. The natural world is going haywire, the balance has been disturbed. Multiple tipping points of no return have been passed in the environment. Ultimately, the natural world is becoming more and more difficult for the human being to live in. Sure, when we go extinct, the planet will find its equilibrium again. But i think i speak for us all when i say, wed rather it not come to that. Wed rather not live in horrible flip flopping extreme weather, wed rather not have to all huddle together ontop of a mountain to survive the floods, or grow webbed hands and feet. Wed rather be able to enjoy the beauty of the naturl world, in real life not just on a screen in our futuristic apocalypse bunkers... sadly thats the direction were headed in. I want the next generation to be able to go outside. That is what is at stake. But there is hope, if people like me and you dont stand idly by. So please, sponsor me, do your own sponsored event, study wildlife conservation like i have, get involved. Thank you.
