31 Miles for Nature

Sponsor me to move more than 31 Miles for Nature to raise £150 for Greenpeace!

I want to protect Scotland and all my favourite places in nature that are under threat from climate change, habitat loss and pollution. Please help me and let's act now to save them. I've decided to move 31 Miles for Nature this October and raise £150 for Greenpeace.

You might know that this October will be a tough one for me. For my family. We lost my dad last October – I can't believe it's nearly a year – and I can't stay still while other people and our animal cousins suffer from awful diseases and pollutions caused by all the junk being produced on this planet. Being outside, especially in a lovely, green environment, is one of the best things we can do for our physical and mental health. Support me, or join me, and get outside this autumn and see that life and nature are beautiful and deserve to be savoured – and protected. I'll be going for walks with my gorgeous husband and our crazy whippet boy so watch for photos!

Please sponsor me and help me smash my £150 target. Thank you, lovelies!

The First Mile: Happy and a Bit Damp

Thursday 2nd Oct
I was working from home today and gazing out the window hoping the rain would clear enough for the first mile of my challenge. The pup gave up on our very soggy early morning walk after five minutes; once he’d completed his ablutions he dragged me right back home again. My trousers were already soaked through so I suppose that was fair.

Over my working day it was lovely watching the robin hop around the front lawn and the starlings and crows dart in and out of the front hedge. The rain calmed down after lunchtime so I was just on a countdown til finish time at 5pm. I don’t mind the rain, really – you get used to it living on the west coast, and you have no option when you have a dog – and it’s early enough in the year that it’s not yet accompanied by freezing winds. So at 5.15pm, dry trousers on, we set off on our wee teatime stroll.

Our walk was lovely, we both enjoyed being outside again; it was drizzly and mild, and the pup had some black brambles along the way. He spits out the tart red ones, it’s funny to see. We stayed close to home this afternoon as I’m quite tired at the moment and dinner was on the way.

I’m delighted to have got two new sponsors this week and I’m now almost halfway to hitting my minimum target. There’s plenty of time to pester my friends and family again to chuck me a fiver!

As well as raising this money for a charity and a cause I care a lot about, this will also be good to encourage me to get blogging again. I write for my day job so I don’t make time a lot of time to write for myself. Well, autumn is the season of change so perhaps this will be a good time to make changes for myself and focus on writing again.

Good luck to all other fundraisers – I hope the weather is kind to us this month.
